By now most of us beauty lovers have heard about LED or we have seen an influencer or two sitting on an aeroplane with an LED mask on, but do we really know what these devices are and how they can treat our skin?
I'm going to share some key information on this ground breaking technology with you, but hold fire not all devices out there will achieve the glowing skin you're looking for.
LED stands for Light Emitting Diodes and the treatment of low-level light delivered by high-intensity LED's is popping up at most well-established skin locations. This delivery of light energy will treat medical and cosmetic conditions and is definitely the preferred form of non-invasive procedure for most people with the results being truly amazing.
In a similar way to how plants convert sunlight into energy, LED treatment utilises specific, proven wavelengths of light to trigger a natural growth and repairing effect on our human tissue by improving cellular health and accelerating the repair and replenishment of the compromised cells. The LED will provide the compromised cells with added energy so they perform better in their role.
Backed by over 5,000 clinical studies, but first researched by NASA due to accelerated cellular ageing in space, however mainly to help injured or ill astronauts on long-term space missions. The agency looked for ways to counteract this from happening and discovered that irradiating cells with light at specific wavelengths stimulated the mitochondria (skin cells 'batteries') to kick start a biochemical process called 'photobiomodulation'
When cells have more energy they will repair better and have an improved ability to fight decline, damage, and disease.
However, the only proven wavelengths supported by science are Blue at 465nm reaching the epidermis. Red at 640nm, reaching the epidermis, dermis and subcutaneous tissue and Near Infrared at 880nm reaching bone.
To have a therapeutic effect these wavelengths must be specific to deliver the energy during a certain time frame with close proximity to the skin.
Many devices on the market simply won't deliver on the scientific facts and you are fooled into believing they will achieve great things.
At Glow Naturally skin studio I have chosen to work with Celluma, a company that offers devices based on scientific facts, and clinical research. Being the only all-in-one LED light therapy device designed to manage a variety of pain and skin conditions.
Cleared by the FDA for pain management, skin conditions and hair restoration. Celluma is also medically CE marked for wound healing meaning they meet standards in the EU for safety, health and environmental requirements.
Having a course of treatments is best to kick-start your skin cells into functioning correctly. A rotation of 2 a week for 4-6 weeks will achieve your optimum results.
So like most things in the skincare industry check the science or speak to your skincare professional before you purchase to be confident your investment will make an improvement.
